HDD vs SSD

Before going to know the differences between HDD and SSD, firstly know about the working principle to understand clearly:

HDD:

Internal structure of HDD

Hard Disk Drives access or data with the help of moving parts inside it. HDD stores the data in the form of tracks and sectors.

Tracks and sectors
Accessing and writing data depends on the rotating speed of the disk inside it.

SSD:
The solid-state drive works with the help of flash memory. It consists of a microcontroller and cache memory inside it.

Internal structure of SSD

Differences between HDD and SSD:

1.SSD is faster than HDD because HDD contains moving parts which has limitations whereas SSD has no moving parts and contains a microcontroller, cache memory which helps us to work fastly.

2.SSD requires less power consumption than HDD because SSD has no moving parts.

3.HDDs are more prone to damage than SSDs.

4.SSD is costlier than HDD.

5.Data durability(storing data for more time) is more in HDD than SSD.

We can observe SSD has more benefits than HDD. If you are buying a laptop choose a laptop with SSD for good performance.

If you want to store much data at a reasonable cost, go for HDD.
If you want fast and best performance irrespective of cost, go for SSD.

  1. Hi,
You shared a very good post about Samsung SSD hard drives. SSDs generally use NAND-based flash memory which retains memory even without power. SSDs using volatile RAM also exist for faster access. The hybrid drive combines the features of an HDD and an SSD in one unit, containing a large HDD, with a smaller SSD cache to improve the performance of frequently accessed files. Recently I purchased Samsung ST3200FM0023 SSD for my Laptop from ESAI TECH at an affordable price.
